Initially the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the name of 20 members of squad for final of ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand, which is going to be held at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18-22.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has now announced names of 15 member of squad for the big battle.

BCCI name 15-member Indian squad for WTC Final.The strength of the squad has been trimmed to 15 by eliminating 5 members from the squad. Five players- Axar Patel, Mayank Agarwal , KL Rahul, Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar failed to get an opportunity to go-ahead.

BCCI name 15-member Indian squad for WTC Final and lot of points were in need to be considered for the purpose.India decided to choose Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma as openers and due to this decision Agarwal was excluded from the squad. Last year Gill performed excellently in India’s Australia tour. He gave vital contribution to help his team to achieve the historic victory at Gabba, Brisbane.

Now India has pacers in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav after exit of Shardul Thakur.

Combination of 3 fast bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami has reaped immense success, despite excellent debut series of Mohammed Siraj Down Under.

There were 2 options of choosing either 4 pacers and a spinner or 3 pacers and 2 spinners and the final decision on this will be taken after the team gets to take a look at the final surface for the match.

Indian squad do not have leg-spinners .Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the only spinners in India squad as Axar Patel and Washinton Sundar are missing out.

Sundar has also shown energetic performance in tour of Australia and as well as against England at home

Patel had a record-breaking debut series against England, as he picked up 27 wickets in merely 3 Test matches.

Wriddhiman Saha has been retained in the 15-member squad. Rishabh Pant remains to be preferred for keeping as his performance was highly energetic against Australia and home series against England.
