New Zealand Captain opted to bat first. Opener, Tom Latham was out after scoring 23 runs in the opening session. Captain Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor were not able to contribute much as they scored only 13 and 14 runs respectively. Conway took the charge as he was unbeaten for 136.
Partnership of Henry Nicholls (46 not out) and Devon Conway gave the vital contribution of 132-runs.
“The job’s not done, but I’m very happy,” Conway told Sky Sports after the match. “I had a conversation with Kane a couple of days ago and asked him what it feels like to go on that honors board.”
“The first thing he said to me was, ‘Now you’re on it, boy’.
“Just getting a test debut and the chance to play at this level was not something I’d thought about – very special feeling,” he added.
