It was a massive blow for Quetta Gladiators because Faf du Plessis was performing extremely well for his franchise.
Before PSL 2021, du Plessis was plying in the Indian Premier League 2021, which was suspended midway on May 4 because of increasing cases of COVID-19 inside the bio-bubble.
At the time of suspension of 14th tournament of IPL, Faf du Plessis was playing for Chennai Super Kings and was the third-leading run-scorer with 320 runs in 7 matches.
Quetta Gladiators would have wanted the South African dasher to play for the franchises after the resumption of PSL 2021 in UAE.
But, Faf du Plessis got concussed after playing only one match and will not participate in the remainder of PSL 2021.
Opener Saim Ayub was selected as substitute of Faf du Plessis for the match against Peshawar Zalmi but the youngster was dropped in the next match.
Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators were not able to do well in PSL 2021. They managed to win only two out of eight matches and just reeling at the last position in the team standings.
The Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side is in need to win their remaining two matches in order to give the team an outside chance.
