Types of cricket bat :
One of the most important equipment used in cricket is cricket bat. Most important part of the cricket game is hitting the ball through bat. Maximum length of the bat must be 38 inches (96.5 cm ) Bat has three parts :
1. Blade : Blade is flat from the front, where ball strike and has ridge on its back. Some of the bats have round edges. Maximum width of blade should be 4 1.25 inches(10.8 cm) . The blade of the cricket bat should be made up of wood and blade may be covered for the purpose of protection and strengthening the bat but the thickness of material used for covering the blade should not be more than 1/16 inches(1.56 mm),care must be taken that material used in convening must not cause any damage to the ball. Blade is flat from front, where ball strikes and has ridge on its back surface. Edges of blade can be round also.
2. Handle : Player hold the bat using handle. Handle is attached to blade and is covered with rubber grip. Rubber grip used to cover the handle is for the purpose of protection and comfort of the holder.
3. Splice : Splice is triangle shaped provided upside down to join handle and blade. Strength of bat gets increased because of blade.
Bats are made of willow, a naturally fibrous wood which is treated with oil. Grains are lines on bat. The types of bat are:
English willow bat:
The English willow is a soft and fibrous timber and most commonly used in manufacturing of bat. It is known for giving best results. Professional cricket bats are manufactured using this kind of willow as this kind of willow is strong enough. There are five grades of English willow bat. The bat with higher grade has higher quality. It is known as white willow and it comes from England. It is softer and much white as compared to kashmir willow. It has high density grains .English willow bats are quite expensive. If you have to play with hard cricket ball, you should prefer English willow bat. Knocking must be done before using the bat. Knocking means striking the bat with old cricket ball to reduce snapping of bat. Than oiling is done to make to give protection to bat as well as gives control of shot to batsman. Raw linseed is used for the purpose of oiling.

The Kashmir willow bats are made using hard wood and weight of the bat is also more as compared to English willow bat. Results of Kashmir willow bat is not as good as that of English willow bat. Willow used for making such kind of bats is found in Jammu and Kashmir. Willow is brownish in color. Quality of bat is not as good as that of English willow bat. One can easily distinguish between the two bats by seeing only. Kashmir willow bats are very expensive now a days as they are handmade. Advantage of Kashmir willow bat is their resistance to shock and hardness Kashmir willow bats are durable also. For the purpose of protection, striking surface must be covered with protection film. 3. Softball Cricket bats:
Softball cricket bats are used to play with the softball i.e ball made up of rubber or a tennis ball. It is called softball cricket bat because it is used to strike ball that is made up of soft material , that is rubber. Good quality wood or fibre is used to make this type of bat. These kind of bats are not used by professionals but by children for purpose of learning or fun. Softball cricket bats are not strong enough to strike the ball that is used for professional purpose. Softball cricket bats are not so expensive and are easily available. Softball cricket bats do not require any maintenance or any extra attention.
