First Test between England and India resulted in draw because of persistent rain that. The match was abandoned due to unfavorable weather conditions which hindered the possibility of match on day 5. Thus, first test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham ended in a draw.
Both the teams were playing with strong hope to win as it was unpredictable that which team will be the winner. For both the teams spirit was high but rain brought disappointment for hosts and visitors both.
India was able to score 52 runs with the fall of 1 wicket in second innings. India was supposed to achieve the target of 209 runs set by team England.
In fourth day KL Rahul smashed 26 runs. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara were at crease. Both were prepared to show their vigor on final day of match but weather conditions did not allow them to do so.

Joe Root was honored with the title of Player of the Match. He was highest scorer of England as he smashed 64 runs in first innings and 109 runs in second innings.
Joe Root said that the final day would have been very interesting for both players and visitors but the weather conditions disrupted the game.
He said that he was having belief that his team will win. He added that they would have won the match by good fielding and catches but the end of game in such a way is shameful.
“The weather disrupted what would have been a very interesting final day. Great Test match to play in and watch as well. Sets up the series really well, and hopefully, we can take it into the next games. We certainly believed we could win. We knew we would have opportunities if we took our catches and kept our fields. It’s a shame it ended this way,” said Root .

On the other hand, captain of team India, Virat Kohli also was also having strong hope that India will win. He said that rain was expected on day 3 and day 4 but it affected the game on day 5.
He said that team India was willing to have strong start and the chances of winning were high as team India was in commanding position.
He stated its shameful that they were not able to complete the game after getting lead.
“We were expecting rain on days three and four, but it chose to come on day five. It would have been enjoyable to play and watch, but it’s a shame. This is exactly what we wanted to do; start strong. On day five, we knew we had our chances. We certainly felt like we were on top of the game. Getting that lead was crucial, but it’s a shame we couldn’t finish day five,” said Kohli.
