1. Dead Pitch
A dead pitch is flat and there is no grass or moisture present on the surface. The continuous rolling on pitch is used to remove the grass and moisture. This kind of dark pitch is most suitable for batsmen because it do not assist the spin or pace bowlers. During limited overs matches majority of the dead pitches are there in subcontinent.
This kind of pitch is not most suitable for Test wicket because on dead pitch it is extremely difficult for bowlers to take wickets. But this kind of pitch is an ideal pitch for an ODI and T20 match because these wickets do not have anything to offer for the bowlers. Dead pitch can help batsmen to score a good number of runs. Matches played on these kinds of pitches can be helpful for both the teams for scoring high runs.
The grass cover present on these pitches is very helpful for fast bowlers. Green pitches are generally a dream surface for seam bowlers as they are able to show their swing and pace prowess.
But this type of pitch causes a threat to the batsmen. These pitches have a grass cover, which can cause the ball to move and swing, once it has pitched on the surface.
There are many grounds in England, South Africa and Australia that have such pitches which enables their best bowlers to wreak havoc on the opposition.
2. Green Pitch
Green pitches are good for Test matches because they tend to examine the temperament nature of batsmen against seam and swing bowlers. The grass present on the pitch help in reducing the roughness of the surface and allows the ball to swing regularly .Therefore the batsmen’s technique is tested.
This kind of pitch is not suitable for spinners because the ball doesn’t grip the surface.
3. Dusty Pitch
Dusty pitch is soft. A dusty pitch is best suitable for a spinner because pitch is left unrolled and it allows the ball to grip. Griping the surface allows the ball to turn a lot more than the other wickets.
This kind of pitch has predictable or low bounce. Thus once batsman adjust themselves to the conditions, it becomes very easy for batsmen to score good number of runs.
These pitches do not make it difficult to score because the deliveries stay low and it can be easily faced by the batsmen. But it is also a fact that spinners with high skills can pick up a good number of wickets in this pitch.
Like dead pitch, the conditions on subcontinent are favorable for dusty pitches.

4. Flat Pitch
Flat pitch is advantageous for batsmen because it offers little or no help to the bowlers. It supports predictable bounce. As the name indicates, the surface is soft and the clay is not rolled in hard. These kinds of pitches are prepared mostly to assist spin bowlers.
5. Dry and Hard Pitch
Dry and Hard pitch usually have no moisture and no cracks on it. It barely offers any support to the bowlers. Batting on such type of cricket pitches is very easy because the ball comes on to the bat of the batsman.
