Irfan Pathan expressed his opinion regarding the reason of failure of India in WTC final 2021:
India lost the recently held final of the World Test Championship by 8 wickets.
It was a big battle and after a big event, there is always the scenario of comments, compliments, expressing views, and finding the reason for failure.
Former Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan has also expressed his views after the big loss of the Indian cricket team against New Zealand in the WTC final. Irfan Pathan expressed his opinion regarding the reason for the failure of India in the WTC final 2021 on the show Follow The Blues.
Irfan Pathan expressed his opinion that the number of batsmen was less in the Indian cricket team and the same points he brought to attention before the match.
The former bowling all-rounder also thinks that India lacks quality fast-bowling all-rounder and on the other hand opponent team was having.
Pathan pondered over the cause of the defeat of team India in the WTC final.
According to Pathan first innings went well but batting in the second innings was not up to the mark.
Pathan felt that the ball was not swinging much as compared to the first innings and batsmen were needed to perform more responsibly.
Irfan Pathan expressed his opinion regarding the reason for the failure of India in WTC final 2021 and said:
“I think India played with fewer batsmen – which I highlighted before the ICC World Test Championship Final. I feel there was a need for one more batsman in the team. We do not have quality fast-bowling all-arounder – which New Zealand possesses – and it is hard to find one.
Now, if we talk from a proper cricketing point of view – what went wrong for India? I think the first inning went great, but Team India’s batting in the second inning was disappointing. The ball wasn’t swinging as much in the second inning, and Indian batsmen could have batted more responsibly,”
Irfan Pathan expressed his thoughts that a more sense of responsibility was required.
Moreover, he stated that the way Indian batsmen were using pull shots for bouncers manifests that the lack of commitment.
Pathan further said the when the time of fielding in the second innings came, batsmen were tired and the reason for this tiredness was lack of practice.
Irfan Pathan expressed his opinion regarding the reason for the failure of India in WTC final 2021 and stated:
“I am aware of Rishabh Pant’s capabilities as a batsman and how he can hit balls very well, but that does not mean you hit a fast bowler outside – a sense of responsibility was required. Indian batters were using a lot of pull shots on bouncers; instead of using their body and this showed a lack of commitment.
By the time we (India) started fielding for the second session, our bowlers were already tired. This happened because India didn’t get enough match practice. When a team gets less match practice, they don’t have the kind of match fitness required for a particular game. I feel this will improve eventually,”
Pathan ended after saying that Indian bowlers would have gone for more bouncers and there is a need to improve the length also as Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor played many cut shots and back-foot punches.
Irfan Pathan expressed his opinion regarding the reason for the failure of India in WTC final 2021 and concluded:
“I think Indian bowlers should’ve opted for more bouncers – the way Neil Wagner did. And improvement is required in length because we witnessed a lot of cut shots and back-foot punches from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor,”
Irfan Pathan expressed his opinion regarding the reason for the failure of India in the WTC final 2021 and this is a topic that must be thought about as it was a big loss for India.
