Shikhar Dhawan is an Indian cricketer of team India. He plays as a left-handed opening batsman and sometimes also plays as a right-arm off-break bowler.
Nowadays he has gained more fame and came into the limelight because he is selected as captain of team India for the series against Sri Lanka which is scheduled to commence from July 13.
Captain, Virat Kohli is to be present in England as India is going to play 5-match series against England which is going to start from August 4. So there was the need for another captain for the series against Sri Lanka. Hence a big responsibility is handed over to Shikhar Dhawan.
Personnel life of Shikhar Dhawan:
He was born on December 5, 1985, in Delhi as a child of Mahendra Pal Dhawan and Sunaina Dhawan. He went to St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School and studied till 12th standard. His nickname at home is Babbu.
He was given the nickname, ‘Gabbar’ by his teammates because of his mustaches.
Dhawan married Ayesha Mukherjee in 2012. She is an amateur boxer. She was having two daughters by her previous marriage and both were adopted by Dhawan. In 2014, Dhawan and his wife were blessed with a son, Zoravar Dhawan.

Domestic Career of Shikhar Dhawan :
In 1999-2000, Dhawan played for Delhi Under-16s Vijay Merchant Trophy.
In the 2000 – 01 Vijay Merchant Trophy he scored the highest run.
He also played for ACC Under-17 Asia Cup.
In October 2001, Dhawan got the opportunity to play for Delhi Under-19.
In October 2002, he played for the Cooch Behar Trophy.
Dhawan has shown excellent performance which makes him gain a lot of fame in the world of cricket.
After that, he played for North Zone Under-19s and the CK Nayudu Trophy.
Due to his highly appreciable performance, he became the captain of the Delhi Under-19 team.
In 2004 he played for the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh and smashed the highest score of 505 runs in seven innings
In November 2004, at the age of 18 years, Shikhar Dhawan played for Ranji Trophy for Delhi and became the highest run-scorer by achieving 461 runs in 6 matches
In 2005-06, he played for Challenger Trophy is a member of India B but he was not able to perform well.
Shikhar Dhawan becomes part of the North Zone squad for playing against Zimbabwe Cricket Union President’s XI.
After that, he played for Board President’s XI against Sri Lanka.
In April–May 2006, Shikhar Dhawan became part of India A in the EurAsia Cricket Series.
In February 2007, he led team Delhi for the Ranji One-day Trophy.
In 2007–08, he gave the contribution to make his team, Delhi achieve victory.
He kept on showing his tremendously good performance.
In 2010 he played as part of India A for England tour but he failed to perform well.
In October 2010, he became the part of rest of the India squad for the Irani Cup.
Due to his energetic performance, he got the chance to play for the Challengers Trophy and after that, he got the national call-up.
In 2010–11, he played as a member of the Delhi squad for the Ranji Trophy. After that, he played for Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Deodhar Trophy.
In 2012–13 he played for Ranji Trophy and after that he got the chance to become part of national team.
IPL Career of Shikhar Dhawan
In 2008 Shikhar Dhawan played for Delhi Daredevils. He has shown brilliant performance by scoring 4 fifties. He also became the third-highest scorer for Delhi Daredevils.
After that, he became a part of Mumbai Indians.
Deccan Chargers brought him for $300,000 in the next tournament of IPL.
In IPL 2013, Dhawan led Sunrisers Hyderabad but in IPL 2014 Darren Sammy took his place.
In IPL 2015, Dhawan was not in the form and his team, Sunrisers also lag behind. Hyderabad
In IPL 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad worked hard and emerge as the winner of the season.
In IPL 2017, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, and in the auction of 2018 IPL; he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹ 5.2 crores.
In IPL 2019 and 2020, Dhawan again played for Delhi Capitals.
IPL 2021 was suspended in between but Dhawan became the highest run-scorer of IPL 2021 as he smashed 380 runs in 8 matches with the strike rate of 134.27.
The stand made by Dhawan with Prithvi Shaw in the IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders was the fifth-highest opening stand for Delhi Capitals in IPL history, and the second-highest in IPL 2021.
Shikhar Dhawan achieved the record of smashing 793 runs against Mumbai Indians in IPL while playing in IPL 2021.
While playing in IPL 2021 Shikhar Dhawan has made 45 fifty+ scores in IPL history and become the first Indian player to do so.
International Career of Shikhar Dhawan
ODI Career
In October 2010, Shikhar Dhawan played ODI series against Australia as his first international match.
On October 20, 2010 Dhawan played second ODI at Visakhapatnam. Dhawan played as opening batsman but his performance was highly disappointing as he was dismissed by Clint McKay on second ball without scoring even a single run.
Dhawan scored his 13th ODI century while playing the 100th ODI match against South Africa and became the first Indian batsman to score a century while playing 100th ODI.
In ICC Champions Trophy 2013, Shikhar Dhawan shared an opening partnership with Rohit Sharma. Their partnership was proved second most successful opening partnership after the partnership of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.
T20 International Career
In June 2011, Dhawan played his first T20I against West Indies. He played as an opening batsman but he was unable to contribute much because of dismissal for 11-ball 5.
Dhawan has shown a highly energetic performance with the bat. In 2018, Dhawan scored the highest T20Is runs.
In the calendar year of 2018, he scored 689 runs.
Test Career
In February 2013 Dhawan started his Test career and played four-match series against Australia. On 14 March while playing the third Test of the series, he smashed a century in only 85 balls and become the fastest player to score a century by on Test debut. He gave a vital contribution of 187 runs in the match.
On 14 June 2018, while playing against Afghanistan, Dhawan achieved the feat of becoming the only Indian and sixth batsman of the world to score a century before lunch on the first day of a Test match.

- He made the fastest Century as a Debutant in a Test match by smashing 187 off 174 balls.
- In ICC World Cup 2015 he became the leading run-scorer.

- He scored the highest runs in ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and 2017.
- He is the fastest player to smash 1000 runs in ICC tournaments.
- He became the leading run-scorer in Asia Cup 2018.
- 689 runs scored by him are the highest runs in the calendar year of 2018 in T20Is.
- He became the first player in the Indian Premier League, who has smashed two consecutive centuries.
