IPL 2021 postponed indefinitely due to hit by COVID-19:
Board of Control for Cricket in India took the decision regarding suspension of the 14th tournament of the IPL (2021) for indefinite period. Kolkata Knight Riders camp on May 3, Monday. Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were tested positive. After that, Chennai Super Kings bowling coach, Lakshmipathy Balaji was also tested positive for the virus. Keeping all these reasons in mind , IPL 2021 postponed indefinitely.
The match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians was to be held on 4,May Tuesday but the information came that Wriddhiman Saha, wicketkeeper-batsman of Sunrisers Hyderabad has been tested positive and Amit Mishra, spinner of Delhi Capitals was also positive for COVID -19.
According to ESPNCricinfo BCCI decided to indefinitely suspend the 14th tournament of IPL because of increasing COVID-19 cases rising inside the bubble. Earlier, the board was thinking to shift all the matches to Mumbai.
BCCI informed that the board and governing council was in need to take the decision unanimously in an emergency meeting. Board Vice-President also informed that the IPL 2021 has been suspended. BCCI stated the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in IPL is the priority .For the safety of all the stakeholders IPL 2021 postponed indefinitely.
BCCI also stated that reason of organization of IPL was to give some moments of enjoyment to people of India in this stressful condition due to COVID-19 but due to priority of health IPL 2021 postponed indefinitely.
BCCI has also given the assurance to create a safe passage for all the players to reach back to their homes.
“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect. The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organizing the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind.
“These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times. The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021.
“The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchises, sponsors, partners and all the service providers who have tried their best to organize IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times,” the BCCI statement read.
