T20 World Cup 2021 likely to be held in the UAE :
It has been reported by ESPNCricinfo ICC T20 World Cup will be held in UAE.
Previously it was decided that T20 World Cup will be played in India but now the venue is changed because of spread of COVID-19 in India, ICC changed the decision. T20 World Cup 2021 likely to be held in the UAE .
Although the tournament will not be played in India but India may host the tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to commence from October 17 and final of the tournament will be on November 14, 2021.
On the other hand, final of Indian Premier League is supposed to be held on October 15 and only two days after that ICC T20 Men’s World Cup will start.
IPL 2021 was suspended because of increasing number of COVID – 19 cases inside the bio- bubble. BCCI has already announced that the remainder of IPL 2021 will be held in UAE from September 19, 2021.
As per ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI is yet to communicate with the ICC regarding the change in venue for T20 World Cup to the UAE. But ICC has already decided and planned the way to execute it and T20 World Cup 2021 likely to be held in the UAE .
As per the plan ICC T20 Men’s World Cup tournament will split into groups across two groups which will be played in UAE and Oman.
In first round, 12 matches will be played among eight teams. The teams are as follows:
- Bangladesh
- Sri Lanka
- Ireland
- Netherlands
- Scotland
- Namibia
- Oman
- Papua New Guinea
Four out of eight teams will qualify for next round that is Super 12s.
The Super 12s is scheduled to commence from October 24, 2021. 30 matches will be played among all qualified teams where teams will play in two groups of six each.
Three venues are selected for that – Dubai , Abu Dhabi, Sharjah
After this there will be two semi-finals and final match.
In the meeting held on June 1, BCCI has given the time till June 30, to decide and confirm that weather India will be able to host the T20 World Cup or not.
But again conditions are going to be difficult in India as third wave of COVID- 19 is likely to arrive in India at the same time and T20 World Cup 2021 likely to be held in the UAE , for this reason.
Another point is that remainder of IPL 2021 is also scheduled to commence on September 19, 2021 which was postponed due to corona virus in India.
Although ICC has already given the confirmation that BCCI is going to be host for the tournament but still BCCI’s decision is awaited. T20 World Cup 2021 likely to be held in the UAE but the might be India.
COVID-19 has placed impact on everything including Cricket. Remainder of IPL will be played in the month of September – October which pas postponed due to COVID- 19. On the other T20 World Cup will be played soon after IPL 2021.During the same dates third wave of COVID-19 is expected to come. It is difficult to predict when normalcy will be stored.
